Elder Planning Specialist (Online)
March 14 - May 30, 2022
Course Cost: $1595.00
One out of three people retiring today can expect to live into their nineties. And by 2060 nearly 25% of the US population will be 65 and older.
How will this affect you as a financial advisor? Most of your career you have been focused on helping people educate their children, protect their family and prepare themselves for retirement. But things have changed. Now that your clients may live 30 to 40 years in retirement you have got to learn a whole new set of skills. And what are you doing to prepare yourself?
Up until now there was no comprehensive program to teach you what you need to know to advise your older clients. But now the Elder Planning Specialist Program is available to you. It was developed over the last five years by experts in the fields of aging and financial planning.
The Elder Planning Specialist Program is an 10-week online program that deals with all the complex issues that you will face as an advisor to an aging clientele. Attendees will learn via an interactive real-life case study format about the aging nation, the family caregiver crisis, how to identify and address memory impaired clients, and discuss end of life planning effectively. In addition, you will learn how to confidently facilitate client family meetings and build a trusted network of professionals. The Elder Planning Specialist (EPS) System includes check lists, scripts, tools, surveys, real life case studies, and much more to give you the confidence you need to address the ever-changing needs of the new retiree.
Highly regarded experts have been selected to present the lectures. Attorney Harry Margolis, a fellow of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, will deliver the course on Elder Law. Paul Malley, the President of Aging with Dignity and the creator of the Five Wishes Program, will discuss End of Life Planning. Anna Rappaport, the former President of The Society of Actuaries, will share her research on the issues facing older clients.
Students will have reading assignments for each of the modules, followed by opportunities for open and prompted discussions. Completion of the course will require passing the quizzes for each section and a one-hour final exam. Ten hours of CE credits will be available to Certified Financial Planners®
This unique program was developed by Robert Powell, CFP®, Robert Mauterstock, CFP® and Annalee Kruger, Certified Social Worker. These three professionals have combined experience of more than 75 years dealing with the issues facing older clients. They will be available for consultations during online office hours with students during the course.
Refund Policy: 100% refund before the first class meeting, 50% before the second class meeting. Please contact Andrea J. DiVirgilio, adivirgilio@salemstate.edu, if you need to withdraw from the program.
