PHOTOGRAPHY AS SELF EXPRESSION AND ART
Tuesdays, May 5 - 19, 2020
6:30 - 8:30 pm
Salem State University
Photography is an opportunity to communicate without words with infinite possibilities for non-verbal expression. During this series of interactive workshops, we will spend our time in thought provoking exercises and group discussion answering questions such as: Why do certain images resonate with me and others do not? What are the non-verbal messages I communicate through the images I create? How do my images affect the world around me? In what ways is photography art? We will start indoors, in the classroom, and then venture outdoors to let nature inspire us.
Our instructors will share their own journey's of creating images and how the purpose and the place of photography in their lives have evolved.
Walk away with a better understanding of the ways in which photography can enrich your life and the world around you. Set aside approximately one hour outside of each session for weekly assignments. Bring your digital camera (if you don't have one, bring your cell phone) and a notebook.

Meet your Instructors:
My name is Erik Torres. I am a freelance photographer.
I got into photography for many different reasons but the one that stands out the most would be to show the world what I see. Being able to capture emotion or tell a story or even just uplift someone's mood has been a passion of mine. Through photography and the wonderful people, I met along the way I am able to show more of the beauty in the world in a creative way.
